EMPOWERING WOMEN or WOMEN IN Empowerment.  

I had written this poem in 2023 as I was working on a painting them of women in empowerment.  You can see some of my art in the website but for me this is a powerful truth.  Hope you enjoy x

What is it ?

this Empowerment thing?

Is it me ?

Is it you ?

Do we have that thing:... that it brings?

I am a woman, once a daughter

people see me as a mother,

a housewife, , A dog walker

A great talker

A professional who wears a suit

A painter dressed in rags

A woman like no other

Bringing different stories and visions of what is our life , our tag…

But…

what is it?? 

This Empowerment thing?

is it just a word to be said

Then forgotten about

In your head

Is Empowerment just a word to be seen

In the magazines 

For the rich and famous like Rihanna or the Queen

Empowerment is like love or the wind

It cant been seen but certainly felt

Inside.

It  is something that is alive

Living in every woman and child

Who strive

To be their bestest self

I cannot lie.

Empowerment is not something you can buy

Or something you can hold

Its like the wind, not seen but certainly felt.

Although if you look closely enough

you can see it in their eyes

Like gold

Shining from within 

A SUPERWOMAN you say,

everything can be done, nothing seems difficult to achieve

Although really look at women in times of dismay

when they are down, feeling lost

Losing confidence , feeling unworthy from their limiting beliefs, 

dark thoughts of … am I good enough?

to be the BOSS

of MYSELF

Striving to be better…..

What do you do when feeling down?

You stand together

and fix their crown 👑

You do that 

Empowering women or women empowerment 

Is it the same thing ?

Does it give the same ring 

Top achievers so I have heard

But do we not all strive to be our bestest self

That strong woman who constantly  fails and rises to succeed 

That person who will not be left on the shelf 

A question to be asked ?

Empowerment….

Is it top achievers …

Only women who have reached the top of the work game?

I've been telt

Or is being a mother , with a clear vision, values, free speech and fire in their eyes

....... not the same ? 

I ask you to define women empowerment

Is it like the wind, it cant be seen but certainly felt

Receiving flowers are nice, 

all sugar and spice

A feeling of being appreciated

Or maybe just over rated

Is it a token of appreciation and love?

Or something given to us because of our sex

A right of passage 

To idolize......

Sad but true.... 

Do we need others to buy us flowers

We are what we are by having our own vision

Not by what is seen of an old tradition 

They call us the bitch because we now have a voice 

We seem strong ..........Is that wrong ?

To have an opinion, 

a thought, a voice

Where when years gone by,

we didn't have a choice 

To live our life as we see fit

As a result of the oppression , the subordination, 

the stay at home wife 

to which we had to submit.

The trouble and strife ...to be that good wife

But for who……not for you.....

Empowerment  has opened a new door

Through which we can build our lives differently

And explore, 

The gift of life, opportunities and living as we should always have been

To use our bodies and our brains,  ..,..

And enable us to be equal in a society without being tamed

The inner child we had to leave

To believe we are in adulthood

Is that good?

We need that now,

To show us how Empowered women can be gentle, innocent and good

But still have the drive to change the world, their world

Into something that benefits us all 

Although many are thinking ?

Have we gone too far with empowering women?

And forgotten .....the role the male counterpart plays

Should they not also reach the bar?

Of changing the mindset of the holy grail

And join with us so that we will not fail

In our quest to have equality, mastering ourself and our true power

Be the best person of yourself, the best you can be

Do what you want .....not what they want , 

Not what society wants,             

Not what family wants,  

Not what work life wants

Self esteem is what you need to see

Not fit into others thoughts 

And lifes tragedies

Be yourself, knowing your self worth as that, can never be bought.
