My name is Denise Brown, known as Dee. I was born in Scotland and was brought up in the heart of the West End of Glasgow, near the Clydeside for most of my life.
A proud Glaswegian lass, Shipbuilding, Leyland cars and strikes formed a large part of my family life and thinking. My career was built on the love of people and their lives, working closely with people of all ages in the community. It was a pleasure to assist people to assist people, stigmatised by society and throughout my career produce strategies for the development of their health , welfare and socialisation. This is still at the heart of many of my actions and thoughts.
At 50 years old, I moved lock stock and barrel to the south of France. Being a creative person, I received certification to make French soap and practice aromatherapy. I opened a small shop in a French village selling paintings and handmade toiletries and goods. Painting , the use of colour and being creative has always been an inbuilt need and desire for me and through time, Brexit gave me the opportunity or push! to move permanently to Spain, where I live and paint on the beautiful Costa Blanca.
I have been painting since high school and was lucky enough to view the paintings in the Rijksmuseum in Holland and also view an original Karel Appel painting in a home in Amsterdam. I am sure that seeing painters like Van Gogh and Appel helped me to see how colour works together is so important.
A self taught artist, I paint mainly in oils and acrylic although also love using charcoals , inks and pastels. A figurative and semi-abstract painter, I have been fortunate to have had solo exhibitions in Denia and Beniarbeig along with group exhibitions in the Jalon Valley, Costa Blanca. In addition, I won a finalist place in the 2022 MMAS exhibition. Some of my work is permanently displayed in shops in the local area.
My own unique style is inspired by my desire to create, the richness of colour and the love of people. In other words, for me, ART is where the heART is.....
I have undertaken many art courses over the years to strengthen my view of art and currently undertaking a Diploma in Art History.
My belief is.....
ART is not for the privileged, the special, the anointed. ART is the natural creative expression that is the birthright of each of us, and exhibited for everyone to admire and enjoy
